Florida Choice Scholarships

Now, in the State of Florida, parents of K-12 students, regardless of household income, who are residents of Florida, are eligible to apply for and receive a scholarship worth an average of $7,800 to attend a private school that best meets their academic needs. The scholarship can be used for tuition along with other related expenses such as registration, books, testing, and other fees. For the school year 23-24, the current value of the state tax credit scholarship for grades 6-8 in Miami-Dade County was published as $7540 per pupil. Current Scholarships for private schools include:

  • The Florida Tax Credit Scholarship (FTC)

  • The Family Empowerment Scholarship for Educational Options (FES-EO)

The State’s scholarship application process is now open. Apply early to secure your scholarship for fall 2024.

Overtown Common Good Community Scholars Scholarship

The Community Scholars Program is a place-based scholarship designed to support and empower students from our local area. Made possible by the Allegany Franciscan Ministries Overtown Council, the Overtown Common Good Community Scholars Scholarship will provide an opportunity up to 100% of the tuition gap after a student’s Florida Choice Scholarship has been approved.

Criteria for Eligibility: Applicants must meet at least one of the following criteria.

  • Residency: The candidate resides within the Overtown community

  • Community Engagement: The candidate demonstrates active participation in the Overtown community through community service or by attending an area after-school program.

  • School Transfer: The candidate is transferring or coming from a school in the Overtown community.

  • Academic Achievement: The candidate demonstrates dedication to their academic journey, shown through grades, teacher recommendations, or other forms of academic engagement.

All applicants must submit a short personal statement (no more than 1 page) responding to one (1) of the questions below:

  1. Exploring Passions: "What are some things you love to do or learn about? How do you hope
    Urgent Academy helps you explore these passions more?"

  2. Learning Style: "Everyone has their own way of learning things best. What ways do you like to learn, and what do you hope to experience in your classes at Urgent Academy?

  3. "Future Dreams: "If you could have any job or career in the future, what would it be? How do you think going to Urgent Academy can help you get there?

  4. Real-World Skills: "What are some skills you think are important for doing well in the real world?
    Which of these skills are you excited to improve at our school?"

  5. Community Impact: "How do you want to use what you learn at Urgent Academy to make a
    difference in your community or the world around you?"

*Scholarships are applied and awarded until depleted. Scholarships do not hold any cash value and cannot be refunded or applied toward any other expense under any circumstances.
